Postpartum
Therapy

with Dr. Michelle Litwer, Psy.D., PMH-C

For the entirety of my career, I’ve helped women through the emotional, physical, and relational intensity that comes after giving birth.

Are you more anxious, irritable, or overwhelmed than you expected to be?
Struggling with obsessive thoughts, mood swings, or even rage?
Not sure if what you’re feeling is normal, or if you’re allowed to ask for help?

Postpartum challenges can show up in ways no one prepares you for. You’re recovering from birth, feeding a newborn, navigating changing relationships, and dealing with hormonal shifts that make you feel like a stranger in your own body.

You might feel critical of yourself for not feeling more grateful, or angry that you're angry- even when you’re doing your best.

Moms Come To Me
When They:

  • Are overwhelmed by “I should…” thoughts

  • Constantly on edge

  • Can’t relax, even when the baby’s asleep

  • Have postpartum depression, rage, or OCD

  • Feel ashamed of their feelings

  • Navigating new dynamics with partner or family

  • Feeling disconnected from your partner

  • Dealt with birth trauma

  • After NICU experiences

When these experiences begin to affect how you want to live or parent, therapy can help you reconnect with yourself and feel more in control.

“Motherly instincts are a BS idea.”

Therapy With Me Isn’t
About “Motherly Instincts

The truth is, postpartum is hard.
There are moments of joy, yes, but also moments of doubt, guilt, fear, and total depletion. And it’s okay to admit that.

Therapy offers a space to process all of it, without judgment. Together, we’ll use tools and strategies to help you find steadiness, clarity, and a sense of self in the middle of it all.

  • Helps you challenge unhelpful beliefs and thought patterns - like “I should just be able to do this” - and reduce self-blame and rumination.

  • Builds skills for emotion regulation, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness and distress tolerance. These are especially helpful when you feel like your reactions are “too much.”

  • Supports you in accepting what’s hard while still showing up for what matters- your baby, your values, and yourself.

  • Presence with their baby

  • Stronger family relationships

  • Reconnection with identity

Therapy with me helps you figure out how to hold both: who you were, and who you're becoming.

I work with moms
in-person in Philadelphia +
via telehealth across 43 states.

I'm a licensed clinical psychologist and mom of two with over a decade of experience helping women navigate postpartum mental health. From both sides, I’ve seen & lived how intense this transition can be. I know how isolating it is when people expect you to “bounce back,” “enjoy every moment,” and just be “living in maternal bliss.”

Postpartum therapy with me combines deep clinical expertise with lived experience. I’ve trained extensively in CBT, DBT, and ACT, and I’m certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) by Postpartum Support International.

Being a “Good Mom” Doesn’t Mean Doing It Alone

Postpartum therapy isn’t just about coping- it’s about helping you feel grounded, supported, and whole again.

Whether you're dealing with mood swings, rage, anxiety, or just trying to figure out who you are now, you don’t have to hold it all in.

This is a space to be real, to be heard, and to find lasting relief.
